Chhaav Sculptural Light

Chhaav is a six-foot sculptural light in solid wood, designed to create a soft canopy of warmth above the form.

It rises from a grounded base, narrows as it climbs, and bends gently at its crown — not sharply, but with the ease of something that has grown into its shape over time.

At its centre, the surface is hand-carved. Not as ornament, but signifying protection — a subtle, textured band that holds the form together. It carries the feeling of strength that does not announce itself. The kind we often receive from people who hold us silently, steadily, and without asking to be seen.

The name comes from an older meaning of chhaav — not just shade, but shelter. The cool beneath a tree. The steadiness of a presence that stands between you and the harshness of the day.

Its light is intentionally restrained. It does not illuminate the room in the usual sense. It rises — gathering above the form in a soft canopy, like shade made visible. Beneath it, the room does not become brighter. It becomes calmer.

Some objects brighten a space. Chhaav makes it feel held.

Variation:
Each Chhaav is carved by hand from solid mango wood. The photographs show one piece; yours will be its sibling, not its twin. The sweep of the neck, the depth of the carving, the way the stain settles into the grain — these differ from piece to piece, the way no two hands write the same letter. Height and base dimensions are held close to those listed; the curve between them belongs to the carver. Subtle variations in grain, tone, and finish are inherent to solid wood and reflect the character of each piece.

Best placed in a corner, beside a seating area, or against a clear wall where its vertical form and upward glow can be fully seen.

For safety, keep Chhaav at least 1 metre away from curtains and other flammable materials. Indoor use only.

Place it near a wall socket so the wire can be tucked neatly along a wall or corner and kept away from walkways.
